My 65+ parents are touring Europe via their motorcycles for one year and started this month (July 2012) in Scandinavia. Unfortunately they have hit a lot of rain. They have thought of storing their motorcycles for 3 – 4 weeks and possibly renting a car or using public transportation to at least see Norway within that 3 week window. However, due to expensive fares on the trains and the cost of car rental they were looking for other options. Does anyone have any suggestions for traveling seniors via train in Norway or traveling in some other manner if they store their motorcycles?
Any help would be appreciated!
Well, if they can't rent a car, can't take their motorcycles, and can't take the trains, that leaves only buses (usually called "coaches" in Europe when they're between cities rather than within a city) and flights. But Norway is an insanely expensive country, so nothing there is going to be "cheap." Here's a website about coaches in Norway: http://www.visitnorway.com/us/Getting-here-and-around/Buses-and-coaches/ And here's the link the the biggest coach company in the country: http://www.nor-way.no/timetables/category555.html
Thank you NY NY for your reply. It is not that they will not take those modes of transportation they are just trying to find the cheapest mode. I will make sure they get the links you posted. Many thanks!
