My ability to be a thrifty traveller is being severely challenged by this summer's plans for scandinavia. We will be travelling from Copenhagen to Stockholm and on to Tallinn and Helsinki before looping back thru Sewden, on to Oslo and then the Hurtigruten out of Bergen. I have made our arrangments up to arrival in Stockholm and would love some help on lodging there and in Oslo - anyone had luck finding good deals? We live on a small boat so we are able to deal with simple rooms but are always happiest with clean ensuite facilities. Thanks for any ideas, Gail
We have relatives in Stockholm, although quite elderly so we would never impose on them. We stayed at an Ibis Hotel and trained in. Seemed reasonable and our relatives didn't have any better recommendations price wise. If you are traveling by car stock up on supplies before you leave Copenhagen. Norway was the most expensive place I've ever been (100 to 250% markup on "luxury items" like eating out). Regular markets pretty much in line with the rest of Northern Europe so buy your picnic lunch/dinner there. The crunch price wise is worth it for the fantastic people and countryside.
