Has anyone taken a Viking Russian river cruise in mid October. How was the cruise and how was the weather?
thanks Tom Cleveland
My wife and I cruised with Viking from Amsterdam to Budapest in October, 2000. Weather was perfect, but as you know it changes.
I strongly recommend Viking. They were accommodating in every way--even moving us from a bottom deck cabin into a top deck cabin at no cost when some passengers canceled. How about that?
The captain, tour director and hotel manager were always available and congenial.
The tours of the 16 towns were organized well and we had a few afternoons to rest or tour on our own.
There is no way to know if conditions have changed, but I would tour with them again based of our experience.
My best friend took the cruise from St. Petersburg to Moscow last October. Weather was variable from wamm to cool and sunny to cold on some days and even snowing on one or two days. Just plan to dress in layers and take a coat or jacket.
We took the cruise from Moscow to St Petersburg in August, weather was wet and cool many days, but the sights were amazing to a baby boomer who remembers Khruschev reviewing ICBM's in Red Square. The Kizhi Island tour was fascinating and St. Petersburg's Hermitage, Peterhof and such rivals all other museums, especially noting how the Nazis bombarded and destroyed so much. The Viking Cruise people were wonderful with great food and attention.
FYI I have been on many grand Circle tours and found them great and cheaper then many Co. doesnt hurt to look !!
