I am wanting to run while on vacation. Any good suggestions of running sites in London and Edinburgh? Is Hyde Park a good spot?
We like to stay near Westminster Bridge and run from there through St James Park, then Green Park and Hyde Park. this involves crossing the streets that separate the parks. if you don't want to cross streets you could run laps around one of the parks. green Park is usually the least crowded.
I've not run in Edinburgh - usually saving my strength for walking in the highlands - but I'm sure I've seen runners near Holyrood Park. There is some University housing down Dalkeith Road and so they're bound be some routes. I've seen at least one circle route. There is good website that outlines other routes that people have used. http://www.run.com/city.asp?loc=Edinburgh+GB Also, I've walked the Water of Leith Path and you might be able to run on parts of it. http://www.waterofleith.org.uk/walkway/ Also, I noticed that the Lothian Running Club has a facebook page. They are primarily Edinburgh based and have a facebook page where you could post a query. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=85842338595#!/group.php?gid=85842338595&v=wall Pam
Hi Jack, I would go with the park that is situated nearest your hotel. They all are pretty nice. Hyde Park/Kensington Gardens is the largest and perhaps the most spectacular, especially in the summer. You'll have almost 600 acres of space to run in. To get an idea, you can run on grass/dirt/tarmac inside the park from Marble Arch to just short of Notting Hill Gate along Bayswater Road. Makes me tired just thinking about it. Inside the park itself there are lots of interesting paths to follow. Also there are a couple of indoor/outdoor restaurants in the park but I would suggest that you bring your own water. In Edinburgh you can run in "Waverley Gardens" park located between the New Town and Old Town. Lots of people also enjoy the climb around "Calton Hill" located at the East of town. Enjoy!
I enjoyed running around and up Arthurs Seat in Edinburgh, a little steep in some spots, but beautiful and you get to climb a mountain to boot!
I haven't been to Edinburgh, but I have ran in Regents Park and Hyde Park. Hyde Park is a great place to run. I generally go in the morning and it has always been a good place. One word of caution - if you go before daylight, be sure and get your bearings. The first time I ever went running in Hyde Park it was March and it began to drizzle on me. I got turned around and thought I would never get back. It is nothing but a large circle, but in the dark and when it is raining it can be a little intimidating unless you know it. One you have ran it a couple of times you will really enjoy it. Also, you didn't say when you are going. One of my trips in March I got really cold. I don't think in the summer you will have a problem, but the winters can be tricky. Thanks - Bill
Holland Walk to Holland park. Peacocks and Japanese fountains. The opening gate is at the junction of Kensington High St and Earls Ct Road.
Hyde Park and Arthur's seat!
