I'm looking to book my first trip to Scotland for later on this year and was wondering if the Military Tattoo is worth my time and money or if I should forgo it?
Spend the money. No better pomp and circumstance than in the UK and the guest troupes this year sound wonderful. Not to mention bagpipes galore. Go.
It's a tremendous show, unforgettable. Don't miss it. There are numerous videos on youtube that will give you an idea what it's like. Buy your tickets as soon as you can, because all the shows are sold out well in advance, especially the Saturdays.
Absolutely, I quite enjoyed it. I did the later show with fireworks, lovely!
Do it. It will be one of the highlights of your trip, one that will be hard to beat. If possible, do the late show. And take a raincoat or poncho- definitely be cold, and quite possibly be wet. we were lucky, just a drizzle
Absolutely Go! Just remember a wool sweater and some rain gear, it is Scotland, after all. Get tix to the late show if you can.
We went when our children were elementary school age. We all enjoyed it despite wet weather. I would also say go see it.
I loved it so much in 2010 that I adjusted plans in 2011 to include it. Am trying to figure out how to get back to Scotland this summer and see it as well. Worth every penny!
Worth every penny. We went for my husbands big 60 and had a marvelous time, Dinner at the Witchery then on to the Tattoo. If I remember correctly, tickets go on sale a long time in advance and go quickly. Expexially for week-ends.
Darren, Why the late show?
Wow...not one negative answer. Thank you for your responses!
Laura, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo is most definitely worth your time and money! I went last year and it was fantastic!!! I especially enjoyed the performance of the Massed Band of the Royal Marines! Here's a couple of video clips to give you an idea (if you're interested): Royal Marines Pipes & Drums (Not HD quality, but they're not bad) As the others have mentioned, it would be a good idea to take a jacket and light sweater for "layering" and also a compact Rain Poncho if possible (they've NEVER cancelled a performance due to rain). One other point to mention is that the Edinburgh Festival is on at that time also, so accommodations are at a premium! It would be a good idea to get something booked as soon as you have your dates finalized. Hotels near the Royal Mile will be expensive, so you might consider staying a bit outside the centre along Dalkeith Road. I would highly recommend This Hotel. Enjoy Edinburgh!
