I recall reading about some sort of archeological site/Roman or medieval village outside of London that was very popular with kids--maybe a place they could dig? Anyone have the name, and have you been there? thanks, Elaine
elaine,
In England there could be LOTS of possiblilties! Do you remember any other details about the article?
Hopefully someone here will have some answers for you.
Cheers!
I saw an ad for it last year. Seems like it had some roman or medieval ruins and maybe a miniature village? Maybe some King Arthur type games? I think they could dig for relics. You could get to it by tube or train--not too far.

This link does have a place where kids can dig for relics, as well as a few other places for families to go.... maybe if not exactly what you want, it may have a few ideas...
Sorry, this is likely not the place, but, it is a great place for kids to visit, and they do wonderful jousting show etc.My son loved the day there.
