Has anyone attended the Riverdance performance at the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin? It's doing its Ireland tour this summer and presume maybe it has played here before. It's playing the night I arrive in Dublin and I'm debating whether to get tickets.
The night you arrive would be a really bad time to plan on going to the theatre. Even if you get some sleep on the plane, the time difference is going to catch up with you early in the evening. I have gone to Ireland four times, and the latest I have been able to stay awake is 8:30 on that first night. Of course everyone is different, but I would not buy theatre tickets for the night I arrive. You can see Riverdance somewhere else (I've seen it twice here in the States).
Thanks for the reply. The fact that it's playing the night I arrive does concern me. Other nights just don't work out. I did the same thing last year in Paris (classical concert the night I arrived). It was a struggle to stay awake and I probably didn't enjoy it as much as I should have.
I'm with Nancy, but if you are going to do it, I'd suggest getting a three hour nap in. I wouldn't normally suggest a nap on arrival day, but in this case, it may work to your benefit. One time I took a nap upon arriving (in Paris from the US). Not only was I disoriented upon waking, it was really hard to force myself awake. After some coffee and fresh air I was ok and still slept great that night, but I doubt I will ever do it again.
I did, around a year and a half ago in the same theatre. I've seen Riverdance several times, and competed in Irish dance myself. I enjoyed seeing the show in Dublin, loved the male lead. I had second row tickets, which turned out to be front row since the front row was empty.
Drink coffee, take a cold shower, do what ever you need to to stay awake and go see the show ;-) It was one of the most enjoyable moments of my trip. Like the previous poster, I was in the second row, and my heart still goes a-flutter when I remember the principal male dancer smiled at me...
Nancy makes some good points. But I have to say go for it. Imagine yourself, wide awake, in your hotel room, missing Riverdance.
Hi Eric,
We went to Riverdance at the Gaiety last summer, and it was wonderful! However, we did not get our tickets until the evening before the performance, and we were able to get "restricted view" seats for 15 euros. These seats were not bad at all, and we were able to see the whole show for cheap. This might be an option if you are not sure how awake you are going to be, because then you can see the show for less. Have a good trip!
