Martha,

This question is discussed frequently here, but the more I think about it, the more I think it's apples and oranges.

Dingle includes not only the peninsula drive ("Slea Head" drive), but also the town of Dingle itself. Dingle is a great place to stay for a few days, or even a week.

The Ring is also great, but more of a day trip. My wife and I spent a night in Kenmare, then drove the Ring the next day and headed to Dingle that same day after finishing the Ring. This worked very well, as we arrived in Dingle in the late afternoon. There's not much reason to spend the night anywhere on the Ring, unless you're taking the ferry past the Skellig Islands.

If you only have one day, I'd choose the Ring. It's easier to get to and easy to complete in one day. If you have a few days, then I'd go to Dingle. And if you have time to see the Ring on the way to Dingle, that's ideal.

Both are great. Personally I prefer Dingle, but you can't go wrong with either one. If you can do both, so much the better.

dingle peninsula my fave place in ireland...kerry is fine and more famous but dingle is true traditional and more intimate and mysterious...both have nice scenic loop drives...

If you stay in Kenmare, you can easily visit both the Ring of Kerry / Gap of Dunloe AND our favourite, the Beara Peninsula. Beara also has a loop drive, many prehistoric sites, and feels more like traditional Ireland than Dingle or Kerry.

My vote is for Dingle-visited both but found Dingle to be far superior to Ring-probably my best experience in Ireland was Dingle-been there twice

I was just there in June! The Ring of Kerry is pretty touristy but a must see. The views are spectacular! I enjoyed the Dingle Pen. but loved Kerry. I took a few hundred pictures. The day we went the weather was great, very sunny, I don't think it would have been the same on a bad day but still wonderful. My recommendation would be to see them both! And don't miss Skellig Michael island. It's 40 euro a person for the boat ride but well worth it.

I also have driven both and prefer Dingle hands down.
