SHould I drive it Clockwise or counterclockwise. I was thinking if I drove it counterclockwise I would always be in the left lane--farthest from the edge. What are your thoughts? Also should I stay in Killarney or Kenmare the night before?

Barb, You need to find out which direction the tour buses go and do the same so you will not be meeting them.

I haven't experienced driving the Ring of Kerry but I have read it is recommended that cars start at the southern route beginning at Kenmare because the tour buses start with the northern route at Killorglin and can hold up cars because of the narrow roads.

Judy is right -- start at the Kenmare end. And explore Kenmare, too. It's a cute little town where you can see lacemaking and a stone circle.
