Any suggestions on things to see? I will be travelling with my 1.5 year-old son and husband. Is Iceland very family oriented/friendly?
From my experience Reykjavik was not a big tourist center. Greyline and Reykjavik Excursions make their money ferrying people in and out of Reykjavik to things to see. For me the draw was the surrounding raw nature and beauty. Most everything that you would do in Reykjavik is the regular day to day activities of walking through town, browsing stores, going to a thermal pools.
The excursions are top notch - Blue Lagoon, The South Coast, Gulfoss + Geysir. Regular well ran tour buses do all of these activities. If I had to do it all over again during tourist season I would probably even consider renting a car.
All tours are family friendly I would say. Only at Gullfoss there is some uneven footing right at the waterfall itself. However there are plenty of appropriate vantage points
Really an amazing place when you consider that Iceland is slowly separating year over year. Hope you enjoy.
