Reykjavík for a day or so

We are thinking about adding a day and a half (land at 6 am, leave at 4 pm the next day) in Reykjavík on our way to London and I have a few questions. Is it easy to get from the airport to the downtown/harbor area? Once downtown, is it easy to walk or should we plan on renting a car? Are credit cards accepted most places? Thanks in advance.

1) Yes, it is simple, but it is not close (about 45 minutes). There should be buses waiting for you there that will take you into town. If I recall correctly, these are usually timed to match up with the flights. Details can be found here: http://www.kefairport.is/English/Transportation/Buses/ 2) It is easy to walk, but it is pretty spread out. If you can afford it, a car isn't that bad of an idea, especially if you are thinking about heading outside of the city to see some of the countryside (like the golden circle). You will also be able to see more sights with a car than without. 3) Yes. There are also ATMs in the airport to get a little bit of the local currency (ISK).

Excellent, thank you. Those are the answers I was wanting to hear. We will have to think about renting a car. We need to decide how much to do in that short time. We are going to do the Blue Lagoon. I think it will be a wonderful place to adjust to the time change before we get to London.
