Returning Cars near Dublin but not at the Airport

We will be coming in to Dublin from the south. Would anyone suggest turning in a rental car on the south side of the city or is it best to drive around the loop to the airport. After dropping off the car, we'd want public transportation into central Dublin.

Thanks.

We've returned rental cars before to Dun Laoghaire, which is a suburb just south of town (you pronounce it Dun Leary). There's a DART train that runs down there.

If you drive around the loop, you've got the issue of finding a place to pay the M50 tolls. Not hard, but you need to be aware. Payzone places are all over. Look at the logo at payzone.ie so you know how to spot a place that has an outlet.

Are you avoiding an airport dropoff because people have said not to drive in Dublin? If that is the case, I wouldn't sweat dropping at the airport. It is not a big deal. Dublin traffic is nothing compared to driving around US cities. I would take Dublin traffic over Houston any day!!

Thanks for the replies. I'm not specifically worried about driving the loop around Dublin. Since I'm coming from the south on the N11, I wanted to see if there were any negatives in dropping off the car. Based on the book, Dun Laoghaire looked like a good possibility. I wanted to see if anyone saw a problem with that. I didn't want to deal with the loop and airport rental car issues if I could easily avoid it.

Hertz Rental is on South Circular Road. Ideal to drop off if coming from the south.
