I am planning a solo trip to Scandinavia in May. The only semi-serious date I have is that I would like to be in either Oslo or Bergen for May 17. I have Rick's book and will be pretty much following the train trip outlined here online,(though probably not going to Helsinki). Of course I will make a plane reservation shortly. But should I reserve hotels or b&bs ahead for the capitals right now? I would prefer to spend a bit more time planning, and to maybe even NOT reserve ahead more than a few days, or reserve at a TI booth. Is this wise in May? Since I'll be travelling alone (I've solo'd many times before, just not to Scandinavia) I am not going to rent a car, but would prefer not to fly between cities even though I gather sometimes it's cheaper than the train. Should I get a Eurail pass? Advice on cheap pensions that don't require a single supplement would also be welcome!
