We are traveling standard class in a few weeks and noticed that some trains state, "Please Reserve." Do we need to reserve this time of year and , if so, can we do this at the station?
Specifics, please, Jim. From... to ... time of day, Train Operating Company if you know. I'll have a look ...
We will leave London (Kings Cross) at approx. 10:00 AM on 21 Nov and travel to Edinbourgh.
The bad news is that the London Plus pass won't cover your ride to Edinburgh. You would need to have a BritRail pass that includes Scotland. The good news is that you can get reasonably-priced point-to-point tickets if you book ASAP at www.eastcoast.co.uk. The cheapest discount fare tickets are already gone for all departure times on 21 November, but for some departure times the fares are still reasonable. If you book now, you will be locked into the departure time you choose. For the 10:00 departure the best fare a few minutes ago was £51.85/person. You can print your own tickets.
I would be surprised if you need a reservation on the train leaving London at 10am on a Monday not associated with a holiday. Nevertheless it is possible to buy one when you buy your ticket, and it may feel good to know in advance on a trip as long as Edinburgh.
