Reservations or Drop In?

We will be in Ireland Sept. 20 thru Oct 3. We want to be free to linger in an area or get out of Dodge when we're done. During this time frame, is there any foreseen problems with not have reservations for accomodation?

My family has traveled in Ireland 3 times. We had reservations for our first night and our last... Our only other rule was to start looking for a B&B before it gets dark. We also rely very much of TI's. Whats a vacation without a little risk, eh?

Outside of the high season, reservations aren't critical. I like to call ahead about 10am for the evening's lodging. I may have to call a couple of choices before I find a place but I've never gone homeless and I don't have to adjust my schedule to meet my reservations.

I tend to reserve for my first night, so I don't have to fool with it while I'm jetlagged, and my last night, since I'll need to be close to the airport and leave the rest flexible.
