Would love input on where ~ thinking western coast, Kinsale or Dingle peninsula? Will stay put for about a week. Also where to find houses to rent or trade?
Actually just looking at VRBO ~ lot of selections. Would love input on best areas to stay though/cities. First trip to Ireland so will be doing the usual touring! Love to hike though too.
What are you wanting to do while you're there? That'll determine a lot. As far as accomodations, for renting you could Google "self catering County _____" or go on www.discoverireland.com. Self catering is their term for house or apartment or cottage rental.
Try to find a location near Kenmare. We are planning to find a self-catering cottage in that area for our next trip to Ireland. I just googled distances: Kenmare-Dingle is 61 miles and 1:37 , so it's doable as a day trip from Kenmare. So is Kinsale 61 miles and 1:39. Kenmare is a small town with good choices of restaurants and even has its own stone circle........You can find reviews for lots of rental cottages (self-catering) on tripadvisor forums.
We're also looking to rent a cottage this summer, and have been looking at all the rental sites. There's like a gazillon places for rent. We've picked our county, and our price range, now must find a cottage. Those who've done it how did you do it. How did you pick the one you stayed at? Names in a jar? Throw a dart? What? How? Help.
I get overwhelmed with all the choices, too. So I call on my OCD tendencies and make a spreadsheet. I put the name, website, price, size, amenities, and proximity to places I want to go. The choice usually becomes obvious once I put it all in front of me.
Maureen, a spread sheet is a good idea. As this being a holiday (Good Friday) my wife has been at it all day. We're down to Donagal and Sligo, still alot of choices. As we're traveling with our older sisters , a short list will be sent to them for their votes. This way we might share the glory or the blame. My requirements are simple, pub, non-leaking roof, clean sheets, in that order. The ladies think other wise.
