Rental car or train, Dublin to Waterford?

Our group of four adults in our 50s is flying into Dublin in the morning and going to Waterford that same day. I would appreciate some thoughts on whether to pick up our rental car at the Dublin airport and drive to Waterford, or go to the Heuston Train Station and take the train to Waterford, and then pick up a rental car for the next week or so. (I realize the rental car prices will be different with these two scenarios.) FYI, we are going to Cashel after Waterford on the way to Kinsale. Thank you!

If it was my choice, I would just get the car at the airport. If you want to rent in Waterford, you would have to get from airport to train station by bus I guess, then train to Waterford and then perhaps from Waterford train station to car rental agency. To me, that is too much especially after overnight flight.

There is a coach from Dublin Airport to Waterford - takes about 3 hours.

I agree with the above post. It's a very simple process to get the rental car and then you're off on your adventure. And traveling by car is the best way to see Ireland anyway, in my opinion. Driving on the left isn't as difficult as some people make it out to be. Just keep telling yourself to stay to the left. And get a GPS, you'll be glad you did. Have fun!
