We are making our first trip to Ireland in a few weeks. We will be staying one night in Dublin. We will rent a car the next afternoon and make the short drive to the Powerscourt area to kick off the rest of our trip. I had planned on going back to the airport to rent the car, but wondered if anyone had a recommendation for a rental location in the southern part of the city (which would save us some time and airport fees). Thanks.
That would depend on what company you are using. Some have other locations in the city, but some don't.
I am willing to use any company. Just wondered if others had found a particularly convenient location that was an easy escape from the city heading south. It looks like there are some locations in Dun Laoghaire that might be an option.
Auto Europe has an outlet on the south side of Dublin. It's on South Circular Road which is just north of Parnell Road which is on highway R111. It's a short drive east on the R111 to the N11 which goes south toward the Powerscourt area. There is a zoomable map on the Auto Europe site that shows the location of all their outlets in Dublin.
We just returned and wanted to the information for future travelers. We ended up renting from Sixt at their South Dublin location. It is about a 25 euro taxi ride, so a bit more than the trip to the airport but you are only 20 minutes from Powerscourt once you get the car. Bring a good map of the location for the taxi driver as the location is a bit tough to find.
