Two questions - When I go to rental car sites and try to judge the size of car I need it tells me how many passengers and bags car will fit. I ofter see 4 passengers 2 large bags and 2 small bags. I need a car for 3 adults with 3 large bags and 3 carry on type bags. Can anyone give me an idea on what that equates to for european rental cars in Ireland. Second - I am very comfortable driving a manual transmission but this will be first time using left hand to shift. Is that a real hurdle? Joe
In my experience, the compact cars in Europe and the UK hold two medium sized suitcases in the trunk with room for some carry on bags, as long as the carry on bags are not too big or rigid and can be maybe squashed in. With three large bags you'll probably need to keep one on the empty passenger seat; the only problem with that is security if you park and lock the car with your luggage in it. As far as the manual shift, I think you'll be fine as long as you're used to driving one at home.
