Recommendations for self catering in Kerry of Cork

I am looking for a good jumping off point for a nine day trip in Southern Ireland. I am leaning towards renting a self catering cottage, which would require I was able to return each evening from the days events. Thank you.

EJ,

It depends in part on what you hope to see. For example, if you want to visit Dingle (although I would highly recommend spending a couple of nights here), then Tralee would be a much better place to stay than Kinsale. But if you want to see Kilkenny, then Cork or Cobh would be better.
