Recession Dublin?

I keep hearing about all these fabulous deals in Ireland because of its recent economic problems, but I can't find any. Does anyone know of any great deals on hotels/B&B, restaurants, etc.? I also heard that in some parts of Ireland they are accepting dollars as Euros (1 to 1); does anyone know about this?

I haven't heard about any particularly great deals in Ireland, unless maybe some of the more expensive places have cut their rates or something. Airfare is always less costly in the winter, but that's a seasonal change, not an economic one. And I certainly haven't heard of anywhere in Ireland accepting dollars 1:1 for euros! That would be really stupid of them to do, since euros are worth more. If you do get some solid information about this, pass it along, OK?

We just returned from a 9 day trip to Dublin (research at archives) and I saw very little evidence of "fabulous deals". However, there was a story in the news about some of the ritzier hotels in Dublin offering rooms at bargain-basement prices. Unfortunately, we weren't able to take advantage of that!
We were there in August as well, and things seemed to be priced about the same.

Probably the only way dollars and euro are on a one to one basis is you give them one Euro and they give you one dollar.
