I am looking for a reasonably priced decent enough hotel in London for my daughter and her friend. My daughter has been studying and traveling in Europe-staying in hostels and I would like to treat the 2 of them to an upgrade of sorts for their London trip in November.
Any recommendations for something centrally located, with a bkft and some sort of "atmosphere" to speak of?
Not sure what reasonable is to you but I stayed at Garden Court Hotel 2 blocks from Kensington Gardens and 1.5 blocks from underground station. In 2006 we paid 60 GBP incl brfast for 2 persons share bath. It's in RS guidebk just google hotel name. Very clean british townhome style hotel on a quiet lovely street and neighborhood & central to alot of tourist sights.
Christine,
You might have a look at Cartref House or the Cherry Court Hotel. These are located in the Victoria Station area, which is very convenient both to the Tube and the Coach station, as well as the Gatwick Express.
Hope they have a wonderful time in London!
Please define "reasonably priced"
Oh gosh- I don't know- $130-150 a night for a twin?
Christine,
I believe Cartref House would fit the price range you mentioned. It's not luxurious but it's clean and comfortable, and Derek cooks a great English breakfast (restaurants could learn a few things from him!).
Cheers!
We've stayed at the Cartref House--it's an easy walk to or from Victoria Station and in a nice, quiet neighborhood--I'd stay there again!
I wouldn't call easyHotel a "decent enough hotel" for anyone. It's bare bones, not even as nice as most youth hostels. Once you want a window you're paying 10 pounds more for the room. I haven't ever seen a price for a room with a window for less than 35 pounds a night. I'd much rather stay at an actual hotel.
real cheap - 25 pounds and up per room. Easyhotel.com
It is a cheap hotel. I think it is better than a hostel and where else can you find a hotel for 25 to 35 pounds per night for two people. It sounds better than a hostel. I have stayed in hostels and this sounds way better.
Look at laterooms.com for prices. Also, do not forget priceline.com and tripadvisor.com. On priceline, be sure of the dates you want. Once bought, they are in stone.
Two B&Bs in Bloomsbury that get excellent reviews in the Lonely Planet London guidebook are the Arran House Hotel and the Arosfa Hotel. In addition to its regular private rooms, the Arran House Hotel has some dorm-type rooms at hostel-like prices.
I have found the website londontown.com very handy for finding hotel rates for the dates you want to stay. they have a fantastic map view feature where you can scroll around London and see all the prices at different hotels. and they have great discounts too.
Let me second Dave's (Newcastle) recommendation...www.londontown dot com is a wonderful site and the map tool makes it easy to pick a hotel in a particular part of town (can be used with other selection tools such as designating what class of hotel you are looking for). Once you use it, you will bookmark it for future reference.
Thanks all for so many great suggestions! I have bookmarked most of them- some had no availability for the dates she needs. And now she is talking about maybe going to Vienna or Prague instead...so I told her she better hurry up and decide!
Hmm... well, this won't be valid during the time you go, but if you plan to go back for the month of January, the London Elizabeth Hotel is taking rooms at £1 = $1.
We made reservations there, have never stayed there so don't know what the rooms are like but breakfast is included.
And they only take American cash, if you pay in pounds you have to pay the normal price.
