My now 17-year-old daughter and I are still in the planning phases of a June 2014 London/southern England trip -- our first visit to Great Britain. Should we plan to include Trooping the Colour? Now that I've read about it, I'd love to attend, and we have the time to do so. But does it makes sense for a couple of (adventuresome) newbies? Regular posters provided wonderful responses last fall when I asked for general advice about the soundness of our plans for a literature-themed trip (covering the haunts of Poirot, Christie, Tolkien, Paddington, Fowler's Bryant & May, Holmes, Shakespeare, and Harry Potter ... for starters). Hoping for more great input this time around!
You are too late for the ticket ballot but the official site has info on the different parts of the event and where to stand to view the Parade from and to the Palace. http://www.royal.gov.uk/royaleventsandceremonies/troopingthecolour/troopingthecolour.aspx
Betty, YES, if you'll be in London at the time, I'd definitely plan to attend the Trooping of the Colours! I believe it will be held on 15 June this year. I've only seen it on TV, and it's a very impressive spectacle! Be prepared for the crowds though! The Changing of the Guard is also impressive, but it's not on the same scale. Happy travels!
Ken and Linda - thanks so much for the speedy replies! We're safe, date-wise, since we're making plans to visit England in the summer of 2014. Linda: I'm storing away the URL you provided now, so we'll be ready for next year.
Trooping of the Colour is one of my favorites! I have seen it as it passes by on the Mall and I have watched it as a spectator in the stands. Loved them both!!!
There is also a rehearsal sev days/a week before the actual eventno chance to see HRM, but less congested. I would think the website wld list this; I found out from our B&B host.
