re: Ireland - good homebase?

We'll be in Ireland for 2 weeks with a car. We'd like to spend 1 week in the Dingle area. Where should we locate ourselves for the 2nd week?

Kenmare is a good location if you want to drive the Ring of Kerry or the Ring of Beara. In the other direction, look for a small town a bit west of Galway. Either of those areas would be a good base. Unless you are looking for a really laid-back leisurely sort of vacation, I think a week in Dingle is too long. Consider flying into Shannon, spending most of a week in the Galway area, then divide your remaining time between Dingle and Kenmare. For your last night, stay in the Ennis or Shannon area, visit the Burren, maybe do the Bunratty Castle banquet which is touristy but lots of fun. We have visited and enjoyed all of the above suggestions.

i too love kinsale. probably the best food and best music in ireland. dingle is awesome, i spent three nights there in september 2009. couldn't really imagine a week there? seems like a waste. i loved kilkenny, which is probably good for two nights. not alot to see but great people and excellent food and closeness to the rock of cashel which is cool. galway is good for the cliffs of moher and the islands. have fun, be safe.

Thanks to everyone for their help. I never even considered Kinsale, so the information was great!
