Raindrops on roses or warm woolen mittens

Hello, I went through a couple pages, so I am sorry if this was already asked long time ago. But what is the weather “like” in mid-to end of March in London. Notice the “…” since everyone knows that since it is in a marine temperate climate, the weather can be very different from one moment to the other. But a good generalization would be nice. Thanks!

March being a transitional month is difficult to call. The last couple have had positively chilly spells but I can recall at least a couple of years when the temperatures were in the late 60s/early 70s!

I expect it will be windy and of course some rain, the last goes for most months. The usual boring advice I'm afraid is to dress in thin layers under a waterproof outer layer rather than bulky overcoats etc so you can chop and change as and when. If it should turn out to be particularly cold you can buy cheap and cheerful fleece gloves, scarves etc while you are here.

I enjoyed your message announcing you had bought tickets. I could feel your excitement. Congratulations.

As you have heard, it's all about layers.

Take a look at the 10 day forecast in weather.com in the days before you leave.

thanks! in my haste of obtaining info, I somehow must have "forgot" that the "weather people" have a 10 day "forecast" which here in columbus is never right.

side note [joke] someone at work told me that I should be a meteorologist, and I told my co-worker that I do not like to be wrong all the time..sorry stupid I know.....

thanks!!!

I can reliably predict that in the UK in March, some pubs and restaurants will be terribly overheated, while their restrooms will be freezing.

We were in London the last week of March last year - surprisingly nice weather (only one rainyish day) - cool, but the daffodils were wonderful - the parks in central London have them everywhere. However, 2 weeks earlier, they had a very large snowstorm that caused all sorts of problems - it's luck of the draw, I'm afraid. It helps to have the 10 day forecasts, but not very much.

When we were there in March, we had a few cool days, a day with a couple of hours of rain and some comfortable warm days. Oh, the flowers are beautiful and gardens in London. You will have a great time....makes me wish I was going.

The Brits refer to the weather as 'fresh'. I finally decided that means cold.
A coat with zip-out liner is a good thing. Woolies can double as sleep pants in a cold room. One sweater, a couple of t-necks, an underwear vest--the usual advice. Most important is be sure that every clothing item will work with every other one you take, so when something is dirty or drying what you end up wearing isn't too bizarre.

I have seen sunny bright days at the end of March and early April. I have also seen icicles and snow. Just be prepared to remove layers of clothing because of inside temps which can be be high enough to cause heat stroke. The outside is never the problelm for me because I can make adjustments for that.
