Rail Pass or Point to Point bus/train tickets

I will be traveling in Ireland for 3 weeks (Dublin, South, Southwest, West, and return to Dublin) Beginning September 15, 2008. I have studied the Emerald Pass, but think purchasing local tickets on buses and trains would be less expensive. What are your thoughts? Will I have any problems securing bus/train tickets without reservations? I want to do this 3 week trip without making firm reservations when I am traveling in this part of Ireland; will I have problems finding B&B's without reservations? Thanks, Dorsey

Yes, buying tickets on a bus or train is cheaper in
most cases . Compare the cost of bus tickets for your trips with the cost of the pass. Usually one will use the pass fewer days, making it more costly.

You will not need reservations. I buy my tickets the
day before use or the day of use.

B&Bs also can be found without reservations. You
may have to look at several before you find an empty
room, but it will be easy. I never reserve in advance. I like to be flexible.
