Quiet hotel in Dublin

My husband and I will be spending two nights in Dublin in Sept. 2009 and would like a reasonably priced hotel or B&B near public transportation but in a quiet neighborhood. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Barbara,

My wife and I were looking for similar things when we went to Dublin last May, and we found them in Dun Laoghaire. It is a nice quiet neighborhood near the water, with nearby access to a 15 minute train ride into Dublin city center.

There are many nice reasonably priced B&B's in the area, and a few good local restaurants. We stayed at Ophira House, which was great. John and Cathy were very welcoming hosts, and even lent us their laptop to get us out of a jam when our GPS went on the fritz.

Good luck with your planning.

I stay at Pembroke Townhouse (link below) when I'm in Dublin. I go there a lot for business and I like the quite Ballsbridge neighborhood. It's a 15 minute walk to city center, about a 3 minute walk to major bus lines and a 6 minute walk to the Landsdown Road Dart station. The price include a very good breakfast and the service is excellent. Ballsbridge itself has 2 good pubs and some decent restaurants.

If you are considering Ballsbridge, my DH and I stayed at the Bewley's Hotel in Ballsbridge in 2006. Transportation stop right in front of the hotel, great prices on rooms. And the restaurant is excellent. http://www.bewleyshotels.com/

Have a great trip. Dublin is a marvelous city -- we both loved it and plan to go back.

Also in Ballsbridge, you can try the Mount Herbert Hotel:

Think of Fawlty Towers without the comic mayhem.

It sits in the middle of a quiet resedential neighborhood, but within a 3 minute walk to the Landsdowne Road DART station. It's also a short walk from the Dublin beach... yes, Dublin has a beach, of sorts.
