Hi Guys, Completing my Britain, Germany, Netherlands tour in two days. Having a blast. Basically, I have one more full day in Britain (this Saturday). I arrive at 7 am from London and have about 5 hours before I can check into a hotel. I had this happen yesterday in Amsterdam as well. I arrived at 7 am, checked my stuff into a locker, and took a short train to Haarlem. I spent about 3 hours there (saw Grote Kirke and the town generally) and came back. Then checked into the hotel. Is there something similar I can do from Heathrow? Basically, I touchdown in Heathrow at 7 am. Basically a 3-4 hour side-trip no more than 20 minutes away.
Windsor and Windsor Castle are about a 30 minute ride away from Heathrow. Easily doable in your time frame.
Windsor (11 miles) is a 15 minute taxi ride from Heathrow. You can tour Windsor Castle and have lunch in a pub...as you exit the castle on Castle Hill there is a good pub across the street. Horse and Groom Pub. Enjoy!!
Rags, unless you are staying at one of the superbudget hotels, most hotels in London will hold your bag until check-in time. This means you could drop your bag at the hotel and go from there. Otherwise, there is left luggage at both Heathrow and at rail stations like Paddington and Victoria where you can leave your bag. Check the hours. In London, there are no lockers at the station, only manned left luggage checks for security reasons.
