We are driving from Kilkenny to Trim and spending our last night in Trim. The next day we drive to the Dublin airport where we will be dropping off our rental car. If we go this way, will there be actual toll stations on the road or will we need to pay by phone/on line, etc? thanks
No toll booths. Take a look at this: http://www.payzone.ie/pages/about-us/contact-us.php What's important is the logo in the top left corner. You'll see the small sign at news stands, some gas stations, some pubs, convenience stores etc. Go by the colors, not the pattern since they stand out easier. March in give, them the couple of euros and the license number and you're done. You can also pre-pay if you happen to spot one first. Also, check with the rental outfit first. Some of them have this covered automatically.
info on toll roads here.. http://www.nra.ie/GeneralTollingInformation/KnowTheToll/ pn the AA site Kilkenny to Trim is showing there is a toll booth on the M3 (after coming off the N3) http://www2.aaireland.ie/routes_beta/
Thank you both for the helpful information. I thought at first that I was bypassing the section of M50 that had barrier free tolling, however, Michelin recommends using that road because it's much faster. The sites you both suggested answered my concerns. Thanks
If I remember right, you have until 8 PM the next day to pay the toll before extra fees begin to apply.
Actually, I paid at the little deli/breakfast shop IN the airport. So you could drop off your car and then pay inside the airport (before you go through airline check in).
Since we will be using the barrier free toll section the day before we return the car to the airport (we use it on the way to Trim but not from Trim to the airport)-can we still pay the toll the next morning ? thanks
