Public transport from Helsinki cruise docks to center city

We arrive into Helsinki via Costa Cruise Lines on 9 September 2009. Is public transport available at the cruise lines dock area? Looking for best/least expensive transport from docks to center of Helsinki.
Thank You!

A great source of info is the website cruisecritic dot com. Go to the Boards area and check under Northern Europe and Baltics under Ports of Call.

You will find lots of info! Helsinki has more than one docking area for cruise ships so it could be a short walk or a longer one ie bus trip into town.

Robert, I'll answer both your Helsinki and Copenhagen question with this reply - my wife and I have cruised to both ports. I'm assuming Costa is treated like Oceania and Princess. Helsinki ... it can't be more convenient. The ships dock in town across from the big Stockholm-Helsinki ferries. Easy to walk into town - there's a big open air market on the dock. It might make sense to buy a hop-on hop-off bus ticket at the TI to see beyond the immediate area. Copenhagen is slightly different. The docking area is a long dock on the river north of town. You can walk in (past the Little Mermaid), but depending on where the ship is along the dock, you may find it to be a longer roundtrip walk than you want. If so, there is public transport to take you to the center and you can walk back. The city is so flat that you'll definitely be able to recognize your ship as you walk back. Finally, cruise critic is a great resource - sign up, it's free.

Yes, public trans. is easily used. Ask someone on the dock where to catch the trolley into town. Be sure you have local currency.

It is possible to walk to the city center, but it's a ways away from the cruise docks (we were on Holland America). The cruise company offered a pretty inexpensive bus option, which we took to get to the center - then we took the trolley back to within a few blocks (as well as around the city).
