I know this may be a silly question, but I want to make sure that we are doing the right thing and not offending anyone, while doing what I may assume is correct. When I need to refill my car with gas (petrol), do I let the attendant know how much I want to put in or can I fill up and pay afterward, using the honor system. Also, are credit cards easy to use at rural stations or is cash just easier to use? Thanks so much, I value your opinions, experience and advice.
Just pull in and fill her up Patty, pay for it afterwards. No bother using credit cards in the vast vast majority of petrol stations, pretty much expected. Word of caution though, do not fill it up with gas, you might get a surprise when you turn on the ignition, stick with the petrol (or diesel).
First time I have ever heard the words "etiquette" and "gas station" used in the same sentence.
Norma you made my day :)
No problem with credit cards, although you might have to use it inside if it doesn't have the chip imbedded in it. Make sure that the meter has been cleared before you fill up though, otherwise you'll be charged for the previous person's petrol as well!
