Problems with ATMs in Tallinn, Estonia

I was reading a blog about this man's trip to Helsinki and Tallinn (preparing for my trip to there) and he was talking about how he couldn't use his ATM card in Tallinn. He was able to use it in Helsinki, so he didn't think it was a problem with his bank. This guy had to resort to traveller's cheques for cash, which I really don't want to do. I, too, want to rely on using my ATM card to get cash. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem when visiting Tallinn?? Thanks!

Brooke, you should go on tripadvisor.com forums, and LonelyPlanet forums, the Thorntree, I bet you will find more posters with experience travelling to those places there here. Good luck

Thanks a bunch! I also have B of A, so that makes me less concerned. Any suggestions or recommendations for Helsinki and/or Tallinn?

Brooke, We just returned from a trip that included both Helsinki and Tallinn. Using a B of A debit card I had no trouble at all. Can't speak for other banks. Things cost about a third less in Tallinn than in Helsinki or Stockholm. One beer in Stockholm/Helsinki $9.00, $6.00 in Tallinn ouch! The exchange rate in Tallin was about 11 Kroon to a dollar. Have a fun trip!

I was able to use my credit union Visa debit card in Tallinn a few years ago.

I managed to lose my wallet before I got to Tallinn last fall, but my husband's debit card worked fine there.
