Priceline and Hotwire... any ideas?

The hotels are so expensive, it's crazy. Some of the b&bs have gone over the top too, or they are full.
Is anyone having luck bidding on Priceline or Hotwire?
Or is it better to go with a known property inc. breakfast and tx.
thanks,
i

The two sites work best in cities that have large metro systems since some of the hotels they use are out of the city center but easily reached via public transit- like Paris and London. I've gotten four star hotels in London via for under $100USD a night!

Irene, I've used Hotwire in London and for a 3 1/2 star hotel have received Hilton Wardolf (paid $126 per night incl tax!), Sheraton Heathrow (going this June, paid $110 incl tax). Hotwire does not come with any frills, but they do show the icons what the property has.

I randomly selected june 22-26 for 2 rooms, and found this on Hotwire under London:3.5-star hotel in Ealing - Hammersmith - Shepherds Bush for $139 a night. This one has a fitness centre, restaruant on property and internet access (not necessarily free but is available). I found a cheat sheet on the internet which thinks its the Holiday Inn. Tripadvisor.com said the hotel isn't bad. 3 of 5 stars. Here is the cheat sheet site:
