premium economy

Has anyone flow premium economy on Virgin or BA? Is it worth the extra cost or should I skip over it and pay the $$ for business class.

Hi,

I flew PE on BA last year. It was nice, but it was just .. nice.

I flew Regular economy on VA this year and liked it better than BA's premium. I loved the knee space, snacks, and friendly staff (BA staff were also friendly and nice, last year, but VA has Gu (dots over the u) snacks. Yum! Possibly knee space could change depending on the size of the aircraft, but I don't remember the size. Sorry.

VA also has a premium economy, so I would spring for that if I had the $.

That was my experience, YMMV.

Cheers!

I was wondering the same thing. Have tickets to London on British Air and Premium Economy was offered at $399 for the upgrade when I booked economy, now they are emailing me that I can upgrade for just $149. I think I would rather spend that 80 pounds on my trip....

We flew Virgin Atlantic premium economy last summer. It was worth it. If you book ahead, you can get two on the side seating--no middle seat. Lots of legroom and hiproom, decent food which kept coming --I think we had food brought to us about five times. Lots of entertainment choices . Definitely worth the extra fare---I think the RT seats SFO to LHR were about $1600. We will use it again next summer. Can any of you recommend something similar for our return trip, Paris to SFO?

On the BA planes that I've flown, it wasn't that big of a deal. In some of the larger planes (747, etc). You do have more personal attention from the cabin crew, and less people walking around to get to the bathroom which is nice....

But I've never found it nice enough to justify paying the extra.

I have not done the Virigin Premium Economy. BA Premium Economy I have found little difference in terms of Service. If you can get comfortable in the economy section I would probably just do that and pocket the money. That said I am quite tall so I will pay for the extra legroom and be comfortable.

Business Class BA is fantastic. Doesn't even feel like your flying. You are able to lounge for 8 or 9 hours, watch a couple of movies and what not. Have a nice meal.

I've flown Virgin economy several times. When the plane is a 747, you are in a seperate area of the plane and it's well worth the extra money. But if it's not a 747, (like on the route from Miami to London) IMHO, I don't think it's worth it. (you can find out what type of plane on the Virgin website on the page where you book tickets).
I've never flown BA premium economy, but I have flown United Business, which was wonderful!

I normally fly premium economy and do enjoy it. This year, I am flying business with BA. I like all the amenities before, during, and after the flight. It is well worth the extra cost.

I have flown regular economy on BA..too scrunched! Not comfy.

Flew 3 times premium economy. Very nice, extra attention from flight attendants, less crowded, roomier, etc.

This is my first time flying business and from what I read, it seems to be worth the extra: the lounges (I have several hours in a layover), massages, the food, I can lie down to sleep, it's private, roomier, and when I land, I can go shower.

I calculated the cost and amenities, and to me, I said "Absolutely"!

I flew premium economy on BA once. It was definitely worth it - especially for the overnight flight.
Coach is so cramped that a little extra space really helps...I would also join the BA Executive Club.
On my return flight I got bumped up to Business class...I don't think that would have happened if I were in coach and not a member of the exec club

I have flown premium economy on both airlines and I prefer it over coach. I found VA's was slightly better than BA, but at the moment I am not a big fan of VA since they have ceased operation from ORD to LHR for the winter months and are refusing a full refund! Personally, I can not justify the extra $$ for business class. I would rather have the extra $$ to spend at my destination.
