Pounds Sterling vs Euros

I know I sound stupid, but i'm gonna ask anyway. When I booked our B&B in Belfast, the lady happened to mention that the currency was Pounds Sterling. I was under the impression that all of Europe was using euros! We're going from Dublin to Belfast, then down to Galway and Shannon. Does any part of Ireland use Euros, or do I need to trade them back in before I leave and get only PS?

Belfast is the only place you mentioned that uses pounds (Northern Ireland is part of the UK). The other places you mentioned are all in the Republic of Ireland, which uses the euro.

Belfast is in Northern Ireland which is part of the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland). Though they are members of the European Union, they still use the British Pound (Pound Sterling). Dublin Galway and Shannon are in the Republic of Ireland (a whole different coutnry) and are also part of the European Union. The Rupublic of Ireland DOES use Euros. Most, but not all members of the EU use Euros, but there are still many countries that have not yet joined/been accepted into the EU. And there are countries like the UK that still use their own currency. Plan on getting cash from ATMs as you need it in each city. If you have some Euros or Pounds, do take them to have for immediately after you arrive.
