Post vanished?

How long do these post stay? I had a really nice post on my question about Ireland Budget and all but 2 are gone? One was done just 2 days ago. Is there a way to get them back?

The person who posted a reply has the option of editing or deleting it. Perhaps that's what happened....Somebody recently suggested copying and pasting the good replies into a document about your destination. I thought that was a great idea.

"Duplicate posts can be deleted by the webmaster even if there are answers on both."

Webmaster? On this site? I thought that was just a legend. In my couple of years here I've never seen evidence of a webmaster.

I did see mention of a webmaster once when somebody was considering staying in Italy past the legal limit, but thought that was just more of the legend I referenced earlier.

I've been tempted to write something nefarious just to see what would happen (Just kidding sir/ma'am, honest!).

Did you post the question twice? Duplicate posts can be deleted by the webmaster even if there are answers on both. But I think Michael has the key -- you just didn't find them when you looked.

Patrick: Heh heh heh. Something nefarious would be exciting.

And there really is a webmaster, but he prefers to maintain a low profile these days. In times long past (well, not that long past) there were a few bad boys here, but they've either reformed or been "taken care of," and since then, there hasn't been much for the Webmaster to do.

Patrick, just recently, i.e., starting about 10 days ago, there was a thread begun by a person called Kendal, asking about going to live in France, with her dogs, without legal status, who droned on and on about government interference in her right to go and live and work anywhere in the world. The thread got very lengthy and then, one day, pfft! it disappeared. It had become very boring so I did not mourn its passing. Did the webmaster excise it? Who knows? "The Shadow knows."

If it went on several days, yes, the webmaster probably zapped it, rather than the original poster.

But I posted once here on "To the North" about Rick Steves mentioning some sort of unacceptable behavior that takes place among some natives of the Cotswolds, and within an hour there was a hot debate and finger pointing going here between Brits and Yanks! I deleted that one myself since I never intended such a fiasco to result from my little comment. As the original poster, when I delete my post, all the responses go away. That may be what happened to the other one, but it was probably the webmaster.

I've spent time on the slowtrav boards also, and, though those boards are no more active than this one, the moderators there are having to close threads every few days due to inappropriate comments and "rule breaking" (political or religious opinions). For some reason, the Rick Steves boards are unusually cordial. Maybe it's a compliment to the friendly mood Rick sets in his TV episodes.
