Can any one give me some restaurants and sightseeing suggestions for Portsmouth? We will stay in Portsmouth for four nights.
You can visit Admiral Horatio Lord Nelson's ship, HMS Victory, and you can see Henry VIII's warship the Mary Rose, which was at the bottom of the harbour for hundreds of years, but was raised a few years ago and is now on view. Both fascinating. For more, just google "portsmouth uk tourism". Lots to see there.
You'll certainly want to go to the Royal Marines museum.
Steve, Well Nelson's Victory is the obvious choice. If you haven't read the Horatio Hornblower books, now would be a good time to read them. It is also the birthplace of Charles Dickens. http://www.charlesdickensbirthplace.co.uk/
I'll always remember when my sister and I went to Portsmouth. We were 21 and 23 years old and when a woman on the train heard that we were headed for Portsmouth, she positively snickered and commented that she hoped we met some sailors....
Pam
.... or meet some Marines.....
Steve,
One of the places that I am going to be visiting in Portsmouth, when I get back to England in June, is the D-Day Museum. You might want to take that in as well as the Royal Marines Museum, which is also on my list.
