Looks pretty busy. Slow down. It is doable, but I think it is a mistake to overbook yourself. How are you traveling? Somethings will take a lot longer than you might think. Some a lot less. If you have some flexibility you can make time for something that may be just what you've always dreamed of instead of forced marching just to get somewhere else.If you've not been to London before; you can easily spend a week just in the city. Edinburgh is smaller than you might think. Your trip ideas do sound like a lot of fun; I hope you have time to do most of them. September is a great time to travel and you are right about doing the north first as things start to close down eariler there. If you like magical things: check the "Treasure Houses of England". Bon Voyage

I can't comment on Chichester, because I've never been there, and I have no idea what a hairy coo day trip is, but I think this looks like a pretty good itinerary. I don't think it's too much, except possibly the days you travel from country to country, which might be tiring. Overall, I think the pace is fine. You probably don't need two days to do everything in Glastonbury, so you could consider stopping in Wells, which is a nice town with a really nice cathedral. I hope you have a great trip!

Stirling day trip from Edinburgh is do-able but Hadrians wall is a good 2 1/2 hours from Edinburgh and you will need a car. What is the Hairy Coo (I imagine it has something to do with Highland cattle as in hairy cow) day trip? Don't miss the underground streets beneath the Royal Mile where plague victims were walled in to prevent spread of the disease in medieval times. Hampton Court is absolutely unmissable, an amazing example of Tudor England so if you do little else do see this and make a point of visiting the palaces Tudor kitchens where Henry V111's meals were prepared and the original tennis courts. I have no idea what the Harry Potter Tour is but I can imagine and as there is so much to see and do in London of an historical interest it would be a shame to end up seeing sites from a movie. A boat trip on the Thames from the London Eye to the Millenium Dome takes in most of the sites from a different perspective including the entrance by river to the Tower of London where many a hapless soul met his end, and of course a trip on the London Eye gives you a bird's eye view of the city and helps you get your bearings. It seems an extensive itinery and if you have to cut some things out, (which I would as Britian is not as small as you may think and it takes time to get about) do not strike a visit to Bath from your list. Along with Hampton Court it is a must.
I hope you have fun but you will need a holiday when you get home to recover from your pitstop tour.

I'm probably the exception, but I think 3 weeks is too long unless that was specifically your daughter's idea. Lots of interesting places, but some could be quite boring to a young person. If she has a boyfriend at that time she'll be ready to go home a lot sooner than 3 weeks. Have a 2 week plan as an alternative.

Thanks to all of you for your replies!

Kathleen - do you mean you think my days are all too full to be enjoyed? or that the pace of the trip is too rushed?

Caroll - I would love to visit Wells and wondered if there would be time for a trip there. I think it's somewhere I'll have to stop anyway getting from Bath to Glastonbury.
The Hairy Coo tour is a trip just into the foothills of the Highlands. We had talked about all the way into the Highlands, but that's a lot of hours on the bus and this has less time driving and more time out looking around.

shoni - yes, the Hairy Coo is named for the cows, and one of the stops on the day trip is to a farm full of them. I'm a cow fan so I'm looking forward to that as well. Thanks for the tips about the Edinburgh Underground (like Mary King's Close?) and London. All this talk is making me so anxious to go! And I agree, we'll both need a vacation after a trip like this.

Tim - I always appreciate a dissenting opinion. 3 weeks is down from the 5 we'd originally planned, with travel to Italy after this. I'll have her really think about it and see if there's anything she might want to leave out. She does have a boyfriend, and homesickness is definitely something she's worried about.

Thanks so much again, everyone!

Sounds like a good itinerary and pace to me. Arundel Castle and the town was one of the highlights of one of our trips - you will love it!
