Places to stay in Amsterdam for 3 nights?

A friend and I will be in Amsterdam for 3 nights in May. I am looking for a hotel or B&B that is centrally located, near public transportation, restaurants, etc. Something nice, but not fancy. Suggestions are greatly appreciated! :)

If possible, I would like to get something for $200 to $250 per night.

At that price range the Golden Tulip-Amsterdam Centre might be a better choice. It's just a block away from the Avenue at Nieuwezijdskolk 19.

If you can stay at the NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky for $150, grab it! About fours years ago I got a similar rate off season......bumped into Sandra Bullock in the lobby. She was in the city promoting Miss Congeniality 2.

Thank you! I did find something on Travelocity, near Dam square, great reviews, for only $150 per night.

The Kraz (or other similar) can be had for $60 to $70 per night during May. Check betterbidding.com for the lowdown. I've used it a couple of times and the savings are amazing. You have to blind bid for that rate- but read the reviews and consider, if you haven't already booked. Good luck.

I stayed at Hotel Estherea in April. I thought the location was great. It was right on the Singel canal near Spui. Easy to reach by tram, nice location for visiting. I had booked one of the least expensive rooms and they upgraded me to a canal view room which was quite nice. Room was very small (two people would have tripped over each other which may be why I was upgraded) but room was nice and it was great to look out at canal. The hotel had a number of nice restaurant recommendations that were within easy walking distance.

In April 2008 we stayed at Boogaard's B&B and it was great. Meets all your criteria. Recommend without reservation. I found it on tripadvisor.com

We stayed at Seven Bridges. Their website has extensive pictures of the rooms. We stayed in Garden 5, a spectacular room, more than we usually would pay. I think it was around $280; others are less expensive and have canal views. Wonderful breakfast served to your room.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I ended up booking our 3 nights on Travelocity at the Hotel Die Port Van Cleve which is in Dam Square. Great reviews, walking distance from the train station, and only $140 per night.

Thanks again, Donna
