places to stay and things to do in Shannon

our family of 5 will be traveling to Shannon over Thanksgiving. What are some family friendly places to stay and some things to do? We have 4 days.

The Cliffs of Moher are close by. They have a new multi-million dollar visitor center there. Aillwee Cave and the Burren are also just a short drive. Bunratty Castle and Folk Park are six miles from the airport. I'm not sure if the folk park part is closed that late in November, but it might just have more limited hours than in other parts of the year. You could also go north to Galway. It would be helpful to know what you are interested in and how old your children are.

There are many B&Bs in the Shannon vicinity, if that's the type of accommodation you're looking for. You'll likely need to rent 2-3 rooms for a family of 5.

There's not much to do in Shannon itself, but there are lots of accessible sights in the area as noted in the above post. My favorite community in the area is Lahinch, which is north of Shannon on the coast.

Have a great trip!

Mike is right, Lahinch is great! It's cute little coastal town just a few miles from the airport. Lots of B&Bs on the hill above town, as well as a large hotel. In the season, it's a golf and surfing mecca (we even saw surfers in February!).

In May, my husband and I stayed at the Avalon B&B in Shannon. It's a pretty small place, but we really liked it and the owner was wonderful. There was a pub/Chinese restaurant within walking distance.
