Can someone suggest a quaint, inexpensive, convenient inn or B and B in York? we will be staying 4 nights in August...thanks!
Hello Vinnie. At York, I liked the B & B - 23 St. Mary's. It is located northwest of and near Yorkshire museum. (north of the train station). That B & B is in a grand old house. The rooms are extravagantly furnished. Each room has a different décor and colors. When I was there, the cost for a room was lower than the cost for a very small and ugly hotel room in London near Victoria train station. I liked talking with the owner Chris, in the front room in the evening. On the Internet at www.23stmarys.co.uk
Agree with Ron. Have been to York twice and stayed there both times. You could check tripadvisor.com. There are many, many B&Bs in York. 23 St. Mary's isn't rated all that highly, last time I looked. I think part of the problem may be that there have been a couple of clearly bogus low ratings.
We stayed at the Abbey Guest House, http://www.abbeyghyork.co.uk/. Convenient location along the riverbank a short walk from the Minster, medieval center, railway musum, and station. It was priced right for us. Quaint, not so much, that's in the eye of the beholder I think. Friendly helpful host and hostess, nice room, good breakfast.

34 Bootham Crescent, York I had a great stay in April last year. It was very easy to walk into the center with a store for food items along the way. If you see Gü Puds, do try them!
We stayed at the youth hostel in a family room. It has just been renovated and is very nice. I think every surface in that place is new. We had a family room at a special rate of 47 pounds a night. Much cheaper than any B&B. The kitchen facilities were great. We purchased entrees to heat in the oven from M&S two nights. It is about a 20 minute walk from town, but mostly flat and a long the rivers with a beautiful view.
Great ideas from everyone! Thanks so much....we made some reservations....Cannot wait to see York.
