We are flying from Edinburgh to Dublin, arriving at about 3 pm and picking up a rental car. We would like to get as far west as we can in 2-3 hours and then stay for the night. Is it too ambitious to try to get to Galway or Salthill? Looks like that would be 3 hours or more by car. We don't want to overdue it our first day in Ireland. We don't want to be too tired/crazy and this will be our 2nd week in UK/Ireland. If it is not too ambitious to get to Galway or Salthill, where do others suggest we stay? If it IS too ambitious to get to Galway or Salthill, where should we stop and stay for the night?????????

What time of year are you traveling? In the summer it stays light very late, and you can get to Galway in about 3.5 hours leaving from Dublin airport. It wouldn't be too far to drive since you will already be used to the time difference.

Nancy, we are travelling in May. What do you think about our situation? Might we do better go go south to Kilkenny rather than towards Galway?

If you want to go to Galway there is no reason not to. It isn't a bad drive.
