I'm staying overnight near King's Cross station before taking the Eurostar to Paris. I'm looking for a place to have dinner in that area. I'll be fighting jet-lag so nothing too heavy, but I also don't want my first meal in the UK to be McDonalds. I see that the British Library has places to eat. Anyone had experience with them? Price - midrange (whatever that is in London). Thanks for any and all advice.
There is a new Yo! Sushi that just opened near St. Pancras. Lots of hot/cooked foods offered besides the hand rolls and sushi that roll by you on the conveyor belt. www.yosushi.com for menus and locations. You pay according to the color coding on the plates you take off the belt or order from the waitress. Plates are small (tapas size), so you can eat as much or as little as you want.
Pizza Express is a sit down restaurant that has reasonably priced Italian - good pasta dishes, salads and pizza. www.pizzaexpress.com for menus and locations.
There's plenty of places near Kings Cross, as its a busy station. You'll have no problem finding pubs, take away places, and I bet you can find a Pret a manger.
Eating in London isn't that expensive... so I'd say you can get a decent meal for 8-15 pounds ($16-30)
click here for places to eat... including a "cheap eats" list.
In the St Pancras / Bloomsbury area there is a great little pub that serves good, reasonably priced food.
It's just off the Euston Road, so it's very easy to find.
It's on Mableton Place and it's called 'Mable's Place'.
Good morning Elizabeth,
I've eaten in the British library several times as it is always on my list to revisit. It has been at lunch time however so I eat in the cafeteria...good food. I love to look at the volumes of books behind glass there. They are from the stacks and were never seen before unless one was doing research! They are large leather bound things and it is such a pleasure to see them used in this way...subtle but at the same time so magnificent!

I did the same overnight near St. Pancras last fall. The train station has many shops and places to eat. I didn't see much else in the neighborhood other than a couple of fast-food places. St. Pancras has a Marks and Spencer grocery store, too, so you can buy a few things for your trip. They were open early in the morning before my train trip.
The most popular english dish is now chicken tikka, so if you want to eat like a native then eat Indian! Fortunately Drummond Street, just beyond Euston Station and therefore about 10 minutes walk from King's Cross, has a great selection.
I'd opt for the Ravi Shankar or the Zamzamar, but stroll along and see what takes your fancy. There's a map, plus list with phone numbers etc, here

Elizabeth, we ate at a nice, reasonably priced pub directly across the street from Euston Station. If you are in one of the stations come out on Euston, turn right and walk about 10 min. to Eversholt (I think) right about 1 block on that side of the road. We paid about 7 pounds for dinner and pub food is good, despite the reputation I have heard about English food.
