I'm remembering a quick trip through Picadilly circus in 1999. We were hungry, but just wanted a quick bite to hold us over. We stopped in at a place that appeared to serve only baked potatoes, but "stuffed" with anything and everything imaginable, including beans (sort of like baked beans)! It was a terribly busy place (read: hugely popular) and we got our potatoes rather quickly, and they were wonderful! Needless to say, we didn't eat for the remainder of the day. I kick myself for not remembering the name of the place, couldn't find a receipt or anything. I only know it was right there, in the center of Picadilly Circus, Eros well within site. Does anyone know this place I speak of and if it still exists?
Was it: Spud-U-Like ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spudulike
There were carts that sold loaded potatoes in lots of busy places in London. Don't think it is limited to just one vendor. Didn't they call them something like "jacket potatoes?"
I believe you are talking about Spud u Like, there are still a few locations in London. Not sure if there is one at Picadilly Circus. I just looked at their website...London locations are..... The Plaza Shopping Centre, 120 Oxford Street and Victoria Place Shopping Centre, 115 Buckingham Palace Rd.
There may be several vendors, Paul, but the OP was asking about a restaurant she visited before, not a street vendor.
I know its not Piccadilly but just thought I'd say the best jackets in Birmingham are from a street vendor cart on New Street.
Do they still have the "jacket" street vendors?
