I'm interested in doing this entire walk (280 miles) in May or June and would like to gather information from those who have gone before. Information about how best to break up the walk and about transportation would be especially helpful.
Thanks, Ruth
Maybe someone here has done the 280 mile hike and will be able to help.
But I'd suggest you also go here, select UK, and then within the UK forum look for an appropriate sub-forum to post the same request/question you've posted here.
Hey, Kent, the Pennine Way is in England. ; ) Ruth have you explored this web site? http://www.walkingenglishman.com/ldp/ldpindexdetail.htm Also, I would advise posting on TripAdvisor and see if you get any local walkers posting. Since its a walk that is likely done by locals and Tripadvisor has lots of local on it you may get some good feedback. Pam
Consider looking @ www.ramblers.co.uk - They are a large walking organisation here in the UK. I know they have Yorkshire based groups.
Try the sherpavan forum, it lists many of the Long distance paths.
Its a great walk.
Ruth, I have the Lonely Planet's book 'Walking in England' and it says that the Pennine Way is a 16 day, 255 mi moderate-demanding hike, starting in Edale and ending in Kirt Yetholm. It says it is a classic national trail along the central mountain spine of Britain, which is long and challenging but rewarding. It lists the suggested mileage from village to village and alternatives (and lodging). You can get the Lonely Planet on Amazon. It also suggests the official Pennine Way South and Pennine Way North National Trail Guides. I am using this line of books for our upcoming hike along the Thames next Sept from the head of the Thames down to Morton-on-the-Thames. Have fun!
