Passport Control Between Ireland and London

I am off to Dublin/London on business next month, and I just wanted to know how "strict" passport control is between Ireland and the U.K. The last time that I flew between Ireland and England, there was no passport control. If anyone has been through lately, and wouldn't mind letting me know what I'm in for (i.e. formal- stamp of the passport, or informal- glance of the passport), I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

Peter, I don't see why this should be an issue. Passport control takes so little time, whether it is to stamp or not stamp, unless, of course, the officer finds a passport dodgey, then time is the least of one's worries.

Yeah, I'm curious why you would be concerned about it. I can't imagine what difference it would make whether you had your passport stamped or looked at, as far as time is concerned. No matter what they do you'll still have to wait in the line.

I am just curious because, in the past, I have spent upwards of 3 hours at Passport Control at 11:45 p.m. at Dublin Airport; so, I just wanted to have some up-to-date info...that's all.

There is no passport control. BUT. You might be stopped and asked to identify yourself if you look er, "interesting". In fact, travelling by road from Ulster (UK) to the republic, it is only the road signs that give you a clue as to which country you are in.

Just to repeat what an earlier poster said. There is no passport control between Ireland and the UK. For airlines it is equivalent to a domestic flight.
