Parking in St. Andrews

My family and I are taking a trip to Scotland in September and one of our stops will be in St. Andrews. I'm a little concerned because some of the sites I've visited online have made it sound a bit difficult to park in town. I'll be with my mother who is unable to walk very far and she'd like to see the remnants of the cathedral. Any suggestions?

St Andrews is not that large of a town and quite easy to drive around in. We simply pulled into a parking lot and that was in July. I would drop your Mother and family members at the main gate to the cathedral grounds, go find a parking spot and then meet back up with them. You shouldn't have any problem finding them wondering around the area. If you're still worried, have a set meeting place such as Young Tom Morris' headstone/monument.

Thanks so much, Bob! It's reassuring to hear from someone who has been to St. Andrews and can say firsthand that it wasn't a parking nightmare. It's much appreciated.

No problem.......we will be in St Andrews in May and could always update you about any parking problems upon our return.

We were there in September and street parking is tough. Narrow streets and little parking. But there are several convenient large lots that were any easy walk back into the center of town. Getting to the cathedral is an easy drive and there is a long walking path along the North Sea with some lovely benches. http://www.fife.gov.uk/atoz/index.cfm?fuseaction=service.display&objectid=9703B80D-F06E-11D5-8DD500508BBD18A1 This website had good information on the public carparks.
