In London, must-do shopping includes the two main street markets: Camden Lock and Portabello Rd.; best on the weekends. Also Harrods department store is a one-of-a-kind type experience; closed on Sundays.

In London, depending on your price range - if you want $$$$ check out Bond St, Knightsbridge, Harrods which is actually open on Sundays, and Burlington Arcade. If you're like me and can't imagine spending $800 on a shirt, check out Oxford and Regent streets and Covent Gardent. I would skip Camden market, it's really very touristy and cheap crap these days. Portobello in Notting Hill is great on Saturdays, check out Spitalfields Market on Sundays for everything and Fridays for art and clothes. Borough market is filled with amazing food stalls.

In Paris, Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Printemps, Galeries Lafayette, and rue Montaigne are hot spots for couture. For cheaper shopping, check out rue Rivoli. Great shoe stores and cute clothing shops one after the other. Unfortunately, the Champs Elysees is now mostly fastfood and American chains like Gap - but there are still some worthwhile shops. If you love makeup, the Sephora on Champs Elysees is a must - it's HUGE.

As far as markets in Paris, they're everywhere. You'll find the big flea markets outside the city center, the most well-known is Saint Ouen in the 18th. I believe it's open Sat-Mon. There are several food markets, great for picnics. Try Marché Mouffetard in the 5th and Place Montorgueil in the 2nd.
