What should I not miss in Paris in Dec . I've been to Paris and seen many of the 'must see' sights, but I was wondering what might be special during Dec (1-16) to see. I'll be doing the same in London. Open to day trips reachable by train/bus. Cheers!
Yes, do check out "To the West." A recent thread there is already 10 replies long. My husband and I go to Paris every year - between Thanksgiving and Christmas. On purpose. Because we LOVE it so much in Paris during the holidays! Another reply here was "meh" about the Christmas markets. I have to say that I could not disagree more. IMHO they are WONDERFUL. As are the little Christmas trees coated with white and colorful flocking that turn up on street corners. And the amazing lights and displays in the gorgeous department stores. And every neighborhood has its own charming lights and decorations. Paris is a DELIGHT around Christmas!
I was there last December. All I can say about "special" is that there are several Christmas markets scattered around the city. My wife and I were not overly impressed by the items for sale but it was interesting to walk through them. We shared a small cone of roasted chestnuts and some mulled wine.
Be sure to check out the "To the West" forum where this topic was recently discussed.
Paris is Paris, so is certainly worth a visit in December. We found that the additional lights around the city were charming, the Christmas markets were just OK (especially compared to the south of France or Germany), and that we really appreciated long evenings in good restaurants all the more when it was freezing out (which it was the year we were there at Christmas).
