Paddington Station area in London - easy to get to Heathrow from here?

I am going to London for 8 days in December. I am staying all nights in the Earls Court area until the last night, when I will spend the last night in Paddington, near the tube station. Has anyone here stayed in that area and had to get to Heathrow by 9:30 -10:00 the next morning? I plan on taking the tube - the Heathrow express is out of my budget range...It looks like there may be 1 connection... District to Piccadilly...

Would this be too far to stay?

Thank you for the info! I do try to study this stuff before I go, but looking at a tube map doesnt tell me how confusing it may be for someone not that familiar with it. Thank you Miss B for pointing out to make sure im going to the right terminal and right train. Thats the kind of stuff that the tube map doesnt tell you!

The Heathrow connect looks affordable, only 7 pounds. The express is like 28 pounds! Aghhh!!! Like im going to have that kind of money left after even just a week in London!! :)

You are correct about the Tube route: the District line from Paddington to Earl's Court and then the Piccadilly Line to Heathrow.

Or if you are willing to spend a little more money in exchange for a faster ride, take the Heathrow Connect train from Paddington to LHR. Almost as fast as the Heathrow Express and a lot cheaper.

Tami,
My husband and I took the tube to Heathrow from the Paddington Train station. I can't remember if we changed trains or not. I know you need to know what terminal you are going to and look at the front of the train and the sign board to make sure you get on the correct train. It was very easy. The train takes about 45 minutes to get to the airport from Paddington. Sorry I don't have the schedule in front of me but you can google the information. I hope you have a WONDERFUL time. We LOVED England and Wales. It was our first trip and would go back again and again.

Tami, if you are staying in the Earls Court area there is no need to go to Paddington to get the tube. You can go to Earls Court tube station to get the Piccadilly Line which is the one that goes to Heathrow. I have left from Earls Court, very easy. If you go to Paddington tube station you will have to change trains at Earls Court.

Robin, I will be in Earls Court for most of my stay. The Final night of my holiday I will be in the Paddington area! I suppose I should have done Paddington first then earls court, but it seems that its not really that far apart. But my concern is how far it was from Heathrow!! (Im one of those panicky people that need to get there early, My flight to the US isnt til 1 but ill want to be there by 10 am at the latest)......

We took the "connect" from Paddington to Heathrow 2 years ago, and it was much more convenient than the tube, that we took from Heathrow to Paddington (which involved a change, and was confusing finding the correct train to get on due to directional disorientation after exiting) The connect was much cheaper than the express....and took just a little over 45 minutes. We left the Paddington station at 6:30AM and were well in time for our 10 AM flight to Dublin. I highly recommend the connect over the tube.

Thank you Dan, I think i will be using the connect, its only 7 pounds. The Heathrow express is 28 pounds, and thats not even first class (I hope they serve lobster and wine)....

Just for the record, the £28 fare on the Heathrow Express is for a return (roundtrip) ticket. The single (one-way) fare is £14.50. That's still an awful lot to pay for a 15-minute ride.

Ah! and see, I still have more to learn! This is why I love this board! That is though, $30 just for a half hour ride (or so), and what would I be saving, 15 minutes off the heathrow connect time?
